The cruise ship that has made national news (for suffering through a wild storm off Cape Horn) will be familiar to GLCC cruisers. She is the Clelia II, shown in the Jim-Wooll photo (left), approaching the dock at Little Current. A video of the storm is here.
A new buoy to test for wind strengths on Lake Michigan will be stationed 6 miles off the Lake Michigan east shore. The buoy is designed to gather data for use in deploying offshore wind turbines. News story here...
Port Captain Gerry Krause passed away on November 14, 2010. Gerry had been a member of GLCC since 1983 and was a long time Port Captain of White Lake M-21 on Lake Michigan. The obituary may be seen at this LINK.
The December issue of the Lifeline is now available HERE. This issue has the event reports from the Annual Meeting at St. Joe, the Wilderness Rally, and the Lake Superior Rally.
Marge Beaver of Muskegon has just published a 208-page hard cover book, Above the Lighthouses: Lake Michigan, featuring all the 100 lighthouses on the lake in full color aerial photos. Area views show why each lighthouse site was required for safe navigation.. Pictures were taken in all seasons and there are location maps for each of the four states bordering the lake. To see sample two-page spreads go to http://photography-plus.com/books.htm and click on the "look inside" link.
Now that the season is ending (and before the memory fades), please send in your updates to the harbor reports. The easiest way is to open a harbor report on the web site and type in a "comment" in the text box at the end of each report. Also post new photos in the web site's "Photo Gallery." Or, if you'd prefer, e-mail (or snail-mail) your updates and photos to the Club's office, and they will be forwarded to your Log Book Committee.
