September Lifeline is Now Available

This September issue of the Lifeline has the event reports from the 2012 Rendezvous at Parry Sound; the Leamington Rally, the Sarnia Meeting; registration information about the Annual Meeting at Chicago; and announcements about the 2013 Rendezvous at Charlevoix and 2013 Spring Break at Punta Gorda, FL. Also included is information about the Great Lakes Foundation’s award to Grand Marais, MI, breakwater project. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, the publication of the final installment of Aluva Adventures log (Winner of the 2011 Founders’ Award) has been delayed until December. GREAT LAKES FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANT AWARD

The funding for construction of new breakwater at Grand Marais, Michigan
(Grand Marais, Michigan) July [11], 2012 - The Great Lakes Foundation today presented a check for $10,000 to Burt Township Supervisor Jack Hubbard. This grant by the Foundation represents partial funding for the construction of a new breakwater for the Grand Marais Harbor of Refuge. This much needed project has been in the planning and fundraising stages for over five years and construction will be completed this fall.

Trent_Severn waterway

As one of our GLCC members traveled home from Parry Sound, at every lock they were reminded by park employees that Parks Canada is seriously considering closing the Trent-Severn waterway next year from September 1st to June 1st in an effort to save funds. Park employees as well as the local business people are very concerned about the financial impact this will have. Wings Hit by Lightening in Lake St Clair

Wings was hit by lightening while underway on Lake St Clair on July 4th.   We got caught in one of those bad squalls that was not predicted, but came up very suddenly.  Do you know where your manual bilge pump handle is located on your boat?  Click on title above for the full story.

Heavy Rains Flush Debris into Lake Superior

2012 Spring Break Report

About 60 GLCC members and guests gathered from March 29 to April 3 at the Port Charlotte Yacht Club, which served as the headquarters for our 2012 Spring Break. Organized by Port Captains (Charlotte Harbor) John and Penny Holmes, it was truly a Spring Break to Remember — and due to popular demand the event will return to Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte, FL, next year.

YOUTH SAILORS WANTED: Toronto Brigantine announces 2012 Summer Schedule

This is Toronto Brigantines 50th anniversary year & they really want to fill the boats for this 2012 Summer Season. Please help them spread the news of this unique program for teenagers age 13 to 18 (sailors and non-sailors alike. - No sailing experience needed) that are looking for a unique tall ship sail training adventure this summer.
