Port Captain Introductions: Walter and Barbara Moore

Welcome Walter and Barbara Moore, proud owners of Bonnie Jean, are our new Port Captains for East Harbor, Ohio (E-16.7). Here's a brief summary about their sailing experiences in and around the Great Lakes:

Materials and Guide for the "Introduction to the GLCC" Presentation

An update to the "Introduction to the Great Lakes Cruising Club" presentation is now available for member download and use. The update incorporates information on the club's new Facebook page, information on current membership pricing, and other enhancements. PowerPoint and PDF versions of the slides and a PDF notes view document with presentation suggestions are available for immediate download to present at local yacht clubs or boating-related organizations.

Port Captain Introductions: Dan and Linda Cline

Dan and Linda Cline, the newly-appointed Port Captains for Port Sheldon, Michigan (M-23.5), reside in Midland, MI, and describe Port Sheldon as a lovely anchorage just 9 statute miles north of Holland Harbor on the southeastern shore of Lake Michigan. Two Tubs at the Top of Bruce Pennisula

Having left the North Channel, this month we find ourselves in Tobermory.  The 1951 report for the gateway to lower Georgian Bay is rather sparse, it does, however, get you there.  We are blessed with a much fuller picture of the town and its amenities in the Club's current edition.  Please click here to view the old report, then visit the current report.

NOAA announces paper nautical charts are here to stay.

It won't be long before mariners and the boating public will have a wider choice of options and special services when they purchase NOAA paper nautical charts, thanks to NOAA's expanded "print-on-demand" chart production and distribution system, Coast Survey officials announced April 4, 2014. Coast Survey recently certified new print-on-demand chart printing agents, and gave them the flexibility to offer different color palettes, various papers, a cleaner margin, and a range of services.

Smooth Sailing for 2014 Spring Break Cruise

The 2014 GLCC Spring Break, March 1-8, provided a change from the venues of the past few years by being a Caribbean Cruise aboard the 1,047-foot long Celebrity Reflection from Miami to San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Martin. It proved to be a very welcome and pleasant adventure for the GLCC members and guests, who managed to escape the unusually severe winter of the Great Lakes region to attend the event.  To read the full story, please click on the headline above.
