Chairpersons GLCC 60th Anniversary Rendezvous

Greetings from Little Current, Ont., “The Port of the North Channel” and the home of the first GLCC Rendezvous.

Looking out our window today, it is hard to imagine the GLCC 60th Anniversary Rendezvous is only a few months away. We hope you have booked your dockage with Reid at rtaylor@townofmeni.on.ca, and have gotten your registration into Yvonne or Lynn at the GLCC office. The planning team has decided to set an April 13, 2025, date to start clearing the docking waitlist. That means if you have already reserved a dock, you should complete your registration payment by that date so we can make sure we maximize our dock usage in Little Current.

Yvonne and Lynn at the GLCC office are there to answer any questions you may have about your registrations, or we can be reached at debbyjturner@icloud.com to help you.

Your committee has four fun-filled days of activities and excursions planned, from arrival day one July 13 to departure on July 17.

We will showcase our beautiful inland Manitoulin Island, with the history of the Island and Great Lakes, presented first by our First Nation family and friends, the Wiikwemikoong Drummers and Dancers.

An archaeological site visit, lavender fields and a visit to a vineyard on Manitoulin Island, along with Pico Sailboat Lakes vs. Lakes races, (get your crews together) and of course the famous cornhole challenge. Bring your pickleball rackets as we found room in our busy schedule for you to join our local pickleball club for a morning of play.

Great memories of this 60th Anniversary Rendezvous are what we want you to leave with and hope you will carry on and explore the other great spots of The North Channel, which is known as the No.1 freshwater cruising grounds in the world. Among them: The Benjamins, Bay of Islands, Frazer Bay, Baie Fine, The Pool, and McGregor Bay, to name a few.

On the final day, the blessing of the fleet will be with the Bass Creek First Nation drummers sending us off with the Traveling Drum and a local First Nation elder along with the GLCC chaplain.

We look forward to celebrating the 60th Anniversary Rendezvous with you: meeting new friends, visiting with friends from years gone by telling stories (maybe even giving a few of your favourite anchorage spots to new members), and enjoying the love and respect we all have for our spectacular Great Lakes.
