In 2021 we ran into the biting flies.  We were up on the Minnesota North Shore in Silver Bay and spent a horrible weekend literally locked in our boat.  We left, went straight to the Apostles.  The biting flies were out for about a day and localized to some of the islands.  We saw a small charter boat that was ferrying day trippers to some of the islands and stopped at Manitou Island and the Fish Camp and the bottom of the charter boat was black with dead flies.

There probably isn't a "bad" time in season ... July/August are the most popular times, but the first part of September will likely also be enjoyable. This past year it was beautiful up there well into October, but that may be an aberration (or possibly a new normal?).

Let us know when you'll be there ... it might be fun getting together if we're there at the same time.

When during the summer did you go?

How was the weather?

Is there a better time to visit for weather and wind that you'd recommend?

Thanks for your help.

I am planning a bareboat charter trip in 2025
