1st GLCC rendezvous

By Jib and Debby Turner, 2025 Rendezvous Chairs

It is a privilege for us and the Little Current, Ont., boating community to host this year’s GLCC Diamond Rendezvous, marking the 60th event since the first gathering in 1965.

Here’s some historical GLCC trivia: Little Current was selected as the first Rendezvous location to honour Jib’s grandfather, Grant Turner. Grant was pivotal in working with the Canadian government (including the Prime Minister) on several important improvements in Canadian waters, including new aids to navigation and aerial charting of many coves and harbors for what was then called the Log Book (now Harbor Reports).

Most of these locations had never been surveyed for navigation. This information proved invaluable to GLCC members.

Little Current’s attractiveness has, fortunately, changed little through the years. Much of what members saw and did in 1965 remains today. Upgraded facilities and more staff added at the waterfront have not changed the quiet and charm of this northern port.

Little Current is centrally located for a variety of cruising opportunities before and after the Rendezvous. That makes this the perfect chance to experience a Rendezvous if you haven’t before, or if it’s been a while.

Little Current is within 20 miles of some of the greatest highlights the North Channel has to offer: the Pool, the Benjamins, Frazer Bay, and McGregor Bay to name a few.

Routinely, a Rendezvous in this part of the channel is the beginning for more rally and Rendezvous activities for friends and guests from far and wide.

Make this year’s Rendezvous part of a summer to remember. Great cruising starts in Little Current, The Port of the North Channel.

We have long appreciated the gesture by the GLCC in erecting a plaque as a long-lasting tribute to Jib’s grandfather Grant Turner. It reminds all on the waterfront of the contributions to the Club by him and many others. Vast areas of the North Channel are unchanged for our enjoyment as a result of our many friends from the GLCC and their tireless work over the years to keep this place pristine.

Join us July 13 -17 to enjoy GLCC’s 60th Rendezvous in Little Current amid the splendid atmosphere and beauty of the North Channel.  And help us celebrate the people who -- like you, the members of the GLCC -- are the keepers of this pristine cruising ground.
