Welland Canal Captain
My wife and I are returning our boat from Rochester, NY to Chicago this summer and will be transiting upbound through the Welland Canal in early June, 2025. We need a third crew member and were thinking of hiring a captain to assist us in our transit. Two years ago, we did the downbound transit on our own.
Does anyone have someone they would recommend to assist as our captain and/or crew for this transit to Lake Erie? Thanks for any direction.
Looking for a boat
PermalinkLarry,
I am not local, but would jump at the chance to crew with you.
I usually bareboat with friends and in flotillas in a variety of domestic and international locations and am looking for Great Lakes experience. (I have only chartered in the Great Lakes once, in the Northern Channel.)
I have multiple ASA certifications and enjoy planning, provisioning, maintenance, repairs, and cooking.
If I have piqued your interest I can send my full resume.
Let me know how I can help
Tom

Welland Canal Captain
PermalinkLarry - The Marinas at each end of the canal maintain or have access to lists of people who will transit with you for a fee. My suggestion is to simply call the upbound marina you're planning to use, for example https://www.portdalhousiemarina.com, and ask if they can provide you with any names and recommendations.
Enjoy your transit.
