Commodore Joe McKeownThe GLCCSchool is off and running and has a great list of classes coming up this year. These classes are an additional free benefit of your membership, and I encourage you to take a class or two to take advantage of this benefit. The school is now on a short holiday break but will kick off a great group of classes in January 2025. You can check out the class schedule and register for classes here: https://www.glccschool.com/open-classes.

December is a great time to review your cruises from this past summer and add some comments on ports and places you visited to our Harbor Reports. These continue to be a key membership value of our organization. They are cited by more than 90% of new members when they tell us why they joined the GLCC. Add comments as often as you can on harbors that you may have visited to keep this valuable resource up to date.

Our 2025 events are shaping up nicely, and I wanted to make sure you marked your calendars for some key dates, particularly the 60th annual Rendezvous. It will be at the Port of Little Current from July 13 through 17. If your plans permit, I know you won’t want to miss it. Here is a link to our events calendar: https://www.glcclub.com/events-list.

The Toronto International Boat Show and GLCC Members Meetup Dinner in Toronto is next month. The dinner is Friday, Jan. 24, and will be at the National Yacht Club (O-45). Karen and I greatly enjoyed last year’s boat show and dinner. We look forward to seeing everyone again next month. Finally, as we approach the end of the year, please consider the Great Lakes Foundation in any end-of-year giving plans. The Great Lakes Foundation is an IRS 501(c)(3) charity. It is dedicated to preserving the richness of wilderness cruising areas of the Great Lakes and fostering the art and culture of cruising. Past Commodore Doug Jackson now leads this very worthwhile organization. Please reach out to Doug if you have any interest in learning more or click here to donate now.
