US-Canada Border Crossing Article

Here is an interesting article in the June 22, 2021 issue of The Washington Post regarding the status of re-opening the US-Canada border: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/06/22/canada-us-border-coronavirus-restrictions/

It's a pretty good article. Things that our American friends should keep in mind while they wonder what the heck is going on:

- As the article notes, Canada still only has about 20% of eligible population fully vaccinated, so is more at risk.

- Canadians are generally (IMHO) more risk-averse than Americans, and our government's position reflects this.

- There are still travel restrictions within the country, and until those are lifted most people aren't pushing to see the international border opened. (e.g. we live in Québec but our boat is in Ontario; we only got access to it last week.)

- Yes, people are arguing "it's easier to fly to Paris than ..." but there are still rules in effect that are a pretty strong disincentive to doing it unless you have to.

It's coming, not as soon as you or I would like, but let's look forward to baby steps and hope that they continue.
