Rideau Canal -Lasalle Causeway Closure
For those of you who are planning a trip up the Rideau Canal, please be advised that the Lasalle Causeway situated at the southern entrance of the canal at Kingston is closed to marine operations for the foreseeable future. The lift mechanism was damaged which means any vessel with an air draft over 14 feet will not be able to enter or exit the canal at Kingston. We have sent a request for more information to Parks Canada who operate the canal and will provide update as soon as we hear back.
The 2024 navigation season for the Rideau Canal begins on May 17

Rideau Canal - Lasalle Causeway Closure
PermalinkIt appears that it will be possible to clear under the fixed bridge at the east end of the causeway. The stated clearance is 5.5 m or 18'. Any boat that can clear the bridges on the western Erie Canal should be OK. Currently Ontario is 31" over datum. In case of a strong wind from the west you might have to wait a bit.
