Port Captain Introductions: Craig & Jeanne Shantz

Let's send a warm welcome and learn a little about Craig and Jeanne Schantz, our Northport, Mich. (M-13) newly appointed Port Captains!

    Craig and Jeanne grew up in northern Michigan and have always had a love of the water and boating. When careers took them to Southern California in January 1994, they expanded their boating experience by joining the Santa Barbara Sailing Center.

    When they returned to the Great Lakes, they continued sailing and cruising the “Sweetwater Seas.” Not to mention that the fresh water is kinder to boats.

    Now retired, they live in Suttons Bay, Mich. (M-11), and have sailed their Island Packet 380 Jeanne Kay II on lakes Erie, Huron and Michigan.

    Craig co-chaired while Jeanne held committee positions for the Great Lakes Cruising Club 2022 Rendezvous in Mackinaw City. In addition, they are both Executive Committee members for the Grand Traverse Bay Squadron of America’s Boating Club.

    Craig holds a USCG Master to 100 GRT License, and is a Certified Vessel Safety Check Examiner through America’s Boating Club (formally the Grand Traverse Bay Sail and Power Squadron).
