Now available as a recording in GLCCSchool – Great Lake Currents
Join experienced Great Lakes cruiser, Niels Jensen, on Tuesday, December 12th as he explains the prevailing currents in each of the five Great Lakes. His webinar, Currents of the Great Lakes, has been significantly updated and is informative, useful and, most of all, fascinating.
Boaters engaging in long-distance Great Lakes cruising, as well as sailboat racing, will find today's on-line current charts of particular interest. In addition to their effect on passage times, Niels will examine how currents also interact with winds to create certain wave phenomena. The best known of these is the wind-against-current situation, which can quickly generate dangerous conditions that, for the comfort and safety of their crew, captains of small recreational craft should well understand.
Niels Jensen is a veteran cruiser, a frequent GLCCSchool presenter and an active member of the GLCC. Niels is currently our GLCC Treasurer and he has recently led the club as Commodore. In addition to this webinar Niels has also teamed up with Fred Bagley to create the GLCCSchool’s Cruising Lake Superior webinar series. Niels and his wife Vicki keep their boat Freelance on Lake Superior in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
