GLCC members took advantage of fabulous summer weather this year with seven different events covering the Upper Peninsula in Lake Michigan to Lake Erie.  Here's a quick recap of the adventures enjoyed by our members in 2024:

1. Lake Erie Picnic (Port Clinton, Ohio) - June 1

Forty members and guests enjoyed a wonderful start to the boating season with bratwursts and lots of boat conversation. The Lake Erie Picnic is an annual tradition enjoyed by members in the area.

2. Lake Erie Rally (Middle Bass Island, Ohio) - June 13-16

The Lake Erie Rally kick-started an active cruising season with a "Psychedelic Sixties" theme. Our GLCC members were in the groove for a weekend of fun, including an excellent use for those tie-dyed shirts that have been gathering dust in the closet. A fully "Groovin" Commodore Doug Jackson had multiple outfits for the weekend. Oh, the stories that were shared … .

3. Annual Rendezvous (Escanaba, Mich.) - July 14-18

Spectacular weather provided the perfect backdrop for the annual Rendezvous, which this year was in Escanaba. The event saw 88 members joining by boat and car enjoying the events, including a brutal and competitive cornhole tournament and the always popular Bilge Auction. Mother Nature cooperated with the scheduled activities by providing brief nightly storms with spectacular rainbows between scheduled events.

4. Lake Michigan Flotilla/eQuality Cruise - July 19-30

Following the Rendezvous, Rear Commodore Bill Bailey coordinated a flotilla of GLCC and Grand Traverse Bay Sail and Power Squadron members with seven boats from Escanaba, down the Wisconsin shore and then across the lake to Michigan's western shores. The "eQuality Cruise" was created years ago as both power and sailboats cruise together. It’s a great way to explore new ports of call and cross the lake, especially for first-timers looking to buddy-boat.

5. Wilderness Rally (McGregor Bay, North Channel) - Aug. 14-16

Roy Eaton, the "voice" of the North Channel, joined GLCC members for the rally. Attendees enjoyed a new cocktail, "Bananas Cattitude," along with a dinghy tour of McGregor Island through cuts passable only by dinghy. A shoreside potluck dinner showcased incredible cooking creativity (with recipes shared).

6. Lake Ontario Rally (Clayton, New York) - Aug. 16-18

Once again, Mother Nature smiled on GLCC attendees with a gloriously sunny start to the weekend. Members gained insights into classic wood boats at the Antique Boat Museum, and toured the 106-foot houseboat (ITAL)La Duchesse built for a New York millionaire hotelier.  Lots of activity and holiday ideas were generated at the Gadget Hour, which is always a highlight.

 7. Lake Erie Dinner (Cleveland Yacht Club) - Sept. 8

The annual dinner is a tradition and is always a fitting end to GLCC summer events. It draws GLCC members from not only the immediate area as well as New York and Ohio for the friendships and the food. It’s safe to say the "land and sea" buffet was enjoyed by a
