St. Helena Meet-up and Flotilla July 10th

email amy@thirdtier.net and let her know that you're attending!

Itinerary:

If you're coming from the east and heading to Escanaba for the annual Rendezvous, please plan to join us for a great little meet-up at St Helena Island, where we'll meet and greet as boats arrive. On July 11th, I've arranged for a tour of the Lighthouse, which is staffed by a fantastic Lighthouse Keepers association, whose president is our new GLCC School instructor Ric Mixter.  Like most of Michigan's islands, St Helena has a fascinating history which you can read all about in the harbor report. St Helena island is a small island about 6nm west of the Mackinac bridge in Lake Michigan. It is well maintained by scouting clubs and an active lighthouse association. There's a nice harbor along the northeastern side of the island. If you're looking at your chart, the harbor is bigger than it appears. The Keepers Assocation also sets out a couple of moorings in the Harbor, but their strength is unknown. Check out this cool time lapse video on the annual opening of the Lighthouse and facilities. They've even just installed a 138-foot dock near the lighthouse with 6ft of draft at the end. I took some aerial photos of the island this past September, showing the new dock, the island as a whole and its harbor.

Not attending the Rendezvous? No problem, join us at St Helena or High Island for a couple of days at anchor.
