Founder’s Award shares great experiences
By Heidi Egensperger, GLCC Founder’s Award Committee Member
It’s that time of year when we dream about summer vacations and cruising!
Have you had a fun/exceptional/learning cruise experience on the Great Lakes that you would like to share with other GLCC members? The Founder’s Award is your encouragement to do so.
The annual Founder’s Award is given to the best cruising story submitted (6,000 words or fewer) referencing your log of a cruising trip completed in a single season. This award honors members for their skill and artistry recording their Great Lakes cruise, along with their involvement in club activities.
The Founder’s Award honors the original eight founding members who came together in1934 (90 years ago) to share information from their respective summer cruises – for their own edification, safety and to expand the knowledge of cruising on the Great Lakes. This was the start of GLCC.
Those original members were: Kenneth Ball, Ralph P. Cobb, Donald E. Currier, Arch M. Gibson, Wells A. Lippincott, Melvin Olson, John T. Snite and Charles N. Steele.
Please submit your entry no later than March 15, (slight extension from the printed date of March 1, 2025) to the GLCC office.
Your Founder’s Award submission must meet the following criteria:
1. Must cover one cruising season
2. Be written so it can be included in our GLCC publications
