From the Bridge, October 2024
By Commodore Doug Jackson
Summer is winding down and boat winterization and layups are in full swing. Pam and I hope you had a wonderful summer cruising our Great Lakes. Our summer was quite odd as we had hull issues with our sailboat, Bleu Lagoon. Those repairs are now completed, but we lost the entire sailing season.
The club enjoyed a variety of events, capped off by the annual Rendezvous in July in Escanaba, Mich., in the Little Bay de Noc area. Next summer’s Rendezvous will be in Little Current in the North Channel. Jib and Debbie Turner are our chairmen. I’m sure with this location, it will be well attended. Keep looking in the Lifeline and on the website for more information.
Here’s a follow up on an initiative we started a few months ago with our Digital Marketing Committee: We are in the middle of a six-month test to advertise the GLCC on Facebook and Instagram.
We are using a Columbus-based firm called RevLocal to help with this project. At the moment, we are generating about a “lead” a day on average. In this case, a lead is someone who clicked our advertisement and asked for more information. It’s too early to tell yet if these leads will turn into new members.
Finally, I hope you’re planning on attending the Annual General Membership Meeting Oct 18 – 20 in beautiful Frankenmuth, Mich., aka Little Bavaria. This is a beautiful setting for our Annual Meeting. Christine Moore Skrocki has done a great job with an itinerary that ranges from making your own pretzels to listening to Frank Sinatra.
Wishing you all fair winds and following seas.
Doug
